Wayne came to New Mexico the unusual way... He was born here. After graduating from Sandia High School he attended the University of New Mexico. Wayne worked his way through college working full time in television news as a news photographer and graduated from UNM with University Studies degree with an emphasis on Computer Engineering and Film/Television.
Wayne’s roots in media go way back to the age of 8 when he started working in his churches' television ministry. There he worked in almost every aspect of TV production for almost 20 years and coordinated and directed a crew of up to 15 volunteers weekly. Wayne won a Student Emmy for his work on “UNM Dance” a recruitment video used by UNM’s Dance Department.
After graduation he continued his broadcast photography until he was offered a position with the Las Vegas Entertainment Network working out of Las Vegas, Nevada directing, editing and animating for a series of international television specials. He spent 1992 traveling between Las Vegas and Albuquerque. His experience in Las Vegas gave him a deeper appreciation of Albuquerque, its culture, history and sense of community.
In 1993 he re-joined his family's business - Vista Media. Started by his mother Nancy Johnson in 1975, Vista Media produces everything from commercials to documentaries to web content. Wayne is now President of the company and is responsible for the day to day operation and creative services. Vista Media recently won 5 Telly awards for their work on “The Silent Epidemic,” a documentary on the identification and diagnosis of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.
Wayne’s wife is also a native of Albuquerque and a small business owner. Kurstin Johnson is the owner and Qualifying Broker for Vista Encantada Realtors. Kurstin is celebrating her 11th year in business and she and two of her agents have each been chosen Realtor of the Year by the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors.
